About the event

Girls & Women's Hockey Academy College Hockey Experience with Princeton Women's Ice Hockey

The Girls & Women's Hockey Academy is proud to partner with Princeton University's Division I Women's Ice Hockey program for an exclusive college hockey experience designed to educate, inspire, and connect young female athletes with collegiate players and industry professionals.

Led by Head Coach Courtney Kessel, Princeton Women's Hockey provides an outstanding example of what it takes to compete at the highest levels of women's hockey. Princeton is coming off an incredible season, where they were the ECAC Champions for the first time in program history in 2026.

This event offers participants and their families a unique opportunity to learn from experts in athlete development, connect with Division I student-athletes, and gain valuable insight into the collegiate hockey experience.

The day will begin with three interactive workshops led by members of the Girls & Women's Hockey Academy staff:

Danielle McDonough, Mental Performance Coach

Danielle will lead a session focused on the mental side of hockey, helping athletes develop confidence, resilience, focus, and strategies for managing pressure. Participants will learn practical tools they can apply during games, practices, and everyday life to support both performance and well-being.

Danielle played in the National Women’s Hockey League for 2 years and professionally in Lugano, Switzerland for 2 years. She played Division 1 for Providence College, where she helped lead the team to 4 consecutive league championships. After retiring from professional sport Danielle earned her MA in Sport & Exercise Psychology and is now CEO of Peak Performance Training LLC. She is the official Mental Skills Coach for the USA Hockey National Development Camp and author of The Empowered Athlete—Self-Confidence, Self-Acceptance, and Self-Worth: An Athlete’s Guide to Excellence.

Stefanie Rock, Certified Sports Nutritionist

Stefanie's presentation will focus on fueling for performance, recovery, and long-term athlete development. Athletes and parents will gain a better understanding of how nutrition impacts energy levels, recovery, strength, and overall performance on and off the ice.

Stefanie is a certified sports nutritionist specializing in the unique needs of youth and teen athletes- including fundamentals specific to female athletes- so they can confidently, and accurately, fuel their game & foundation to maximize performance and recovery, strengthen their developmental growth, and minimize their risk of non-contact injury. Working with athletes, teams, and organizations throughout the US and Canada, Stefanie is passionate about empowering the next generation of athletes and eliminating fueling confusion for athletes and parents.

Morgan Martin, Certified Athletic Trainer

Morgan will provide education on injury prevention, recovery, mobility, and maintaining a healthy body throughout the hockey season. Her session will help athletes understand how to reduce injury risk and build habits that support long-term athletic success.

Morgan earned her Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and Master's degree in athletic training from Lebanon Valley College, where she played 4 years of NCAA DIII ice hockey. She then went on to serve 2 seasons as an athletic trainer for Salem State University, where she traveled with the university's women's ice hockey team. She currently works with the air crew at Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina.

Following the educational workshops, participants will enjoy a meal together before attending the Princeton vs. Cornell Women's Hockey game at historic Hobey Baker Arena. In-between periods, athletes will be given the chance to high-five the players outside of the locker room.

After the game, all participants will have exclusive access to a Q&A session with Princeton Women's Hockey players and coaches. The discussion will cover topics such as the recruiting process, balancing academics and athletics, training habits, leadership, and the realities of being a Division I student-athlete. Athletes will also have the opportunity to ask their own questions and meet the players during an autograph and photo session.

This event combines education, mentorship, and a memorable college hockey experience, providing young female athletes and their families with valuable resources, inspiration, and direct access to collegiate role models as they pursue their goals in hockey and beyond.
